Healing Spiritual Abuse & Religious Addiction
What I love most about the Linn’s books is actually the illustrations done by Francisco Miranda - so I was disappointed to come to this book that was mostly text - a small thing I know!
It’s the personal reflections that I find so admirable about the Linn’s books. There is always sharing about their own lived experiences and that personalises the content for me. Religious addiction and abuse doesn’t happen to people over there - it’s happened to us - and just ‘cos we’re writing a book about it doesn’t mean that we’re not still recovering.
"Healing Spiritual Abuse and Religious Addiction" explores the damaging effects of religious abuse and addiction. It aims to help readers identify and recover from the harmful patterns and beliefs that can develop within religious communities.
The Linn’s offer practical tools and strategies for healing, including self-reflection exercises and guidance on seeking support from outside sources. It also delves into the dynamics of power and control that can exist within religious systems, and how these can contribute to abuse and addiction.
One of the key takeaways from the book is the importance of reclaiming one's own spiritual journey and finding a sense of autonomy and agency. Whether you've experienced religious abuse or addiction yourself, or are looking to support someone who has, "Healing Spiritual Abuse and Religious Addiction" is a valuable resource for understanding and healing from these complex issues.
Favourite Quote:
“Although we might wish that those who misuse religion would simply get with it and be converted to our own “progressive” attitudes, we know it’s not that simple. At least it hasn’t been that simple for us. Dennis and Matt’s recovery from religious addiction is an ongoing process, and all three of us are slowly recovery from spiritual abuse”
