Parts Work
This book came into my sphere through colleagues at work. For a good couple of months there it was the “modality of choice” and we considered everything through the lens of “Parts Work”
In this book, Tom Holmes teaches readers how to understand and manage their inner selves. The book introduces the concept of "parts" - the different aspects of a person's personality and emotions that can sometimes conflict with each other.
Holmes explains how these parts can be identified, named, and understood in order to create more inner harmony and achieve personal growth. The author provides practical techniques for working with these parts, such as guided meditations and journaling exercises.
The book also explores the role of trauma in shaping a person's parts, and offers strategies for healing past wounds and integrating fragmented aspects of oneself.
Holmes really takes the Internal Family Systems framework as developed by Richard C. Schwartz and make it approachable to everyone with this book. It’s the illustrations for me that are just *chefs kiss*. That visual element just enhances the metaphor of our internal selves being a (disfunctional) chosen family. I find it so helpful in my work with others – along with my own personal growth.
